Professional Development - CEU's
As part of our commitment to lifelong learning and the professionalism of our members, the IDIBC has offered a continuing education program since 2002, when a mandatory continuing education program was introduced for all registered members. This was an important step in our development as a regulatory body for professional interior designers in addition to our ongoing pursuit of a practice act in the province of BC. IDIBC adopted a harmonized CEU model for professional development in 2012, along with other provincial members of Interior Designers of Canada (IDC). This strengthens the profession nationally by ensuring all interior design professionals across Canada receive the same number and quantity of continuing education and professional development credits on an annual basis. Members report their CEUs (continuing education units) on IDCEC’s (Interior Design Continuing Education Council) online CEU logging system.

Changes to the Accepted Building Code Courses for New RIDs
In January 2019, it became mandatory for new RIDs to have completed a 36 hour BC Building Code course as part of their admission to IDIBC. The list of approved courses on the IDIBC website is now being amended: only courses focusing on Part 3 of the building code will be accepted as of Jan. 1, 2021. This move is being made to ensure that RIDs have the highest level of building code related knowledge as we move towards having a Practice Act, and it is in alignment with the IDIBC Mission Statement “To promote the health, safety, and welfare of the public and support excellence in Interior Design by the regulation of the Interior Design profession in BC." Refer to the IDIBC website to see the list of accepted building code courses.
